Elden Ring Review

elden ring review

Elden Ring is the game that Souls fans have been waiting for – FromSoftware has taken all they have learned from Dark Souls, Demon’s Souls, Bloodborne, and Sekiro games and combined it into an expertly designed open world game called Elden Ring.

There is much to discover and experience in this vast universe, yet nearly everything you encounter wants only one thing – your death.

Gameplay

The Lands Between have been torn asunder, leaving creatures and factions fighting for control in a world both dangerously hostile and deeply bewitching. From Software has created another epic grim fantasy game – this time on an even grander scale than its previous offerings! This new grim fantasy epic provides all the tension, moment-by-moment action, and curiosity found in their previous works – only now on an unprecedented scale!

Experienced veterans of the series may find Elden Ring to be more approachable than previous titles, with quality-of-life improvements such as better health management and more frequent checkpoints – but be warned – it remains an incredibly demanding game that will test even experienced veterans of its genre!

Elden Ring can quickly become a maze-like environment that’s difficult to navigate, and even after exploring every inch, you could end up facing off against an unexpected boss who you weren’t prepared for. Grace trails provide some guidance by showing where your next exploration should occur.

At its best, The Lands Between is at its most engaging when you’re exploring unfamiliar terrain – taking in sights while taking note of enemies and dangers around you. This is particularly true when exploring its castles, dungeons, catacombs and catacombs; each feels similar to Dark Souls or Bloodborne environments in terms of tension-inducing corners and short cuts while simultaneously heightening your sense of claustrophobia and dread.

Combat is still an immensely satisfying experience, featuring the tried-and-true formula of measured third-person combat against enemies that punish foolishness as compelling and nerve-wracking as ever. You can wield sword and shield, use ranged weapons or simply stand back and cast spells to topple foes. The game’s soundtrack adapts itself accordingly: from orchestral music when exploring to an intense cinematic score at key junctures in your journey or combat.

Though Elden Ring can be explored alone, it’s more fun and challenging when explored alongside another. From Software has long provided robust multiplayer support allowing for teaming up with friends or strangers in a spirit of community discovery – you can even summon other players online to assist with boss battles!

Graphics

Elden Ring from the creators of Dark Souls and Bloodborne is an epic grim fantasy thriller with forbidding visuals and an expansive open world. While its story of a fallen kingdom may be vague, Elden Ring still provides an immersive fantasy universe filled with vivid characters who provide plenty of backstories – providing players with an irrepressibly dynamic fantasy universe in which nothing stands still for too long.

Lands Between is an engaging game in every sense, offering both a challenging gameplay experience that requires skill as well as a sense of wonder and discovery in its vast landscapes and small details. From roaming sheep that roll away armadillo style to towering knights or flame-breathing dragons – there’s an overwhelming sense of scope throughout its entirety! Adding another layer to its depth lies lore that’s communicated mostly through mood or atmosphere rather than traditional narrative storytelling techniques.

Elden Ring can be enjoyed online with other players and features a level-sensitive matchmaking system that ensures battles don’t throw you against those much higher or lower than you. While this can be seen as beneficial, some may perceive Elden Ring’s multiplayer experience has been reduced when compared with Souls games’ more structured designs.

Elden Ring is an imaginative and enjoyable game to play, but can become repetitive over time. There are only a few unique boss encounters in its main areas; additional dungeons contain duplicate fights or repeat encounters which may become frustrating if playing on a difficult setting.

So it is clear: this game requires a strong PC setup in order to work optimally. While its impressive graphics may make an impactful statement, stutters may sometimes crop up during combat scenes. Although not enough to ruin the experience completely, these micro stutters may occasionally cause minor irritation; hopefully a patch will address these issues shortly.

Soundtrack

Elden Ring’s music is both enjoyable and integral to its gameplay, from its soothing NPC voices to its dark brass-heavy main menu song; from atmospheric vocal snippets of NPCs to its epic main menu track; its soundtrack provides the perfect atmosphere of Elden Ring. This store-exclusive vinyl contains 17 tracks from Elden Ring’s original soundtrack remastered for playback on two marble-effect vinyls!

The main menu song sets an ominous tone that remains throughout the soundtrack, with songs featuring foreboding brass and droning strings to create an eerie atmosphere without feeling overly dramatic or oppressive. These sounds work well with an open world which simultaneously feels welcoming yet intimidating; FromSoftware has established this space by employing methodical gameplay in previous games like this one.

Elden Ring is a world that fosters exploration but doesn’t present many clear paths to follow. Every dungeon, no matter its size or complexity, features at least one boss; many even return in subsequent dungeons with different appearances or movesets! Elden Ring also contains an impressive number of NPC quests with vague, cryptic tales about how this world came to exist in its present state.

Elden Ring stands out from other franchise games by not only featuring numerous NPC quests but also boasts secret dungeons and summonable spectral warriors to aid combat. These elements provide a welcome departure from previous installments while making Elden Ring more accessible for newcomers.

While From attempts to be more welcoming than other games, its punishing elements still penalize players who stray too far off course; but, rewards can be substantial as players can accrue a considerable amount of cash and equipment by exploring this vast yet beautiful universe.

Story

Elden Ring is one of FromSoftware’s signature works; it exudes life and danger. A world filled with foreboding monuments and crumbling fortifications from a once-proud kingdom has come tumbling down, leaving only its remnants to speak of fallen grandeur still lingering on the land. There you may come across anything from sheep that run away when approached to an endless caravan of desiccated peasants led by two dragonflies in a wheelbarrow… One wrong step could mean painful death!

The game’s narrative is more subtly complex than in previous titles, relying more on environmental storytelling than characters’ cryptic dialogue to communicate its lore. Ruins of castles and catacombs provide subtle clues as to their history without necessarily coming together into a coherent whole; similarly Sites of Grace provide trail of gold leading towards new story points in more-or-less open world environments.

But the real draw of FromSoftware games lies in their moment-by-moment gameplay, where mastering combat can be both satisfying and difficult – enemies swarm around you in droves, with even weaker foes capable of killing with one hit; though there are numerous strategies for deflecting enemy attacks or evening out odds, from summoning ghost dogs or skeletons to jellyfish that cause havoc along their path towards your location.

Elden Ring may not possess the depth of its predecessors, but it remains an outstanding piece of design from FromSoftware. Offering an extremely rewarding experience if you can overcome its tough challenges, FromSoftware has designed something truly worthwhile that should leave an indelible mark on your gaming career. Although some post-launch patches were released post-release to address balance and bug issues; its rewards can only increase with perseverance! Its world is well worth exploring and will reward those willing to invest time into conquering its formidable obstacles; fans of Dark Souls or Bloodborne should enjoy this masterpiece as they will find even greater rewards from mastering them!
