Windows Movie Maker is an elementary video editing program for Microsoft’s Windows OS that is no longer being developed or maintained, yet still widely used. While no longer officially supported by Microsoft, many continue using it today.

Basic editing
Windows Movie Maker is an all-in-one video editing program that should meet most people’s basic video editing needs. Transitions
Windows Movie Maker’s transition features allow you to use video clips as transitions that fade in or out, dissolve into another clip or do various other things to add interest and flair to your videos. When used appropriately they make them more captivating; however if used inappropriately they could even embarrass or embroil.
Transition effects such as cross fading and wiping can add depth and dimension to any video presentation, while there are also various visual effects available that you can take advantage of.
Movie Maker provides several transitions for use with videos, as well as options to customize or create your own transitions. Windows Movie Maker also features stabilization features to reduce minor camera shake or wobble in videos. There are low and high versions of anti-shake or wobble correction for you to select depending on the severity of your footage.
Other advanced features of this software for video editing include motion tracking and keyframing, color filter adjustment and webcam recording directly within the program, streamlining content creation workflows. Audio
Windows Movie Maker features basic audio features such as mutes, fade-in, and fade-out for clips. You can also insert an additional audio track to accompany video clips – for instance using another audio file to provide music or voice narration for your project.
Windows Movie Maker’s fundamental feature is to allow you to cut and splice audio and video files, giving you complete control over their look and length. For instance, this means you could cut long video clips into short segments for creating new videos.

Early versions of Windows Movie Maker offered flexible interfaces which allowed for custom effects and transitions via XML scripting; unfortunately these features have since been disabled in later releases of the software.

Windows Movie Maker is an accessible video editor that is packed with essential editing features for beginners, including trimming and splicing clips as well as transitions between them, transitions between them, text templates and effects for titles.
There are also advanced tools such as stereoscopic 2D to 3D conversion, camera shake reduction, captions and other advanced tools that help users create professional-looking movies. Other features include LUT color grading tools, themes customization and the option for importing audio tracks.
Upload video files directly into Windows Movie Maker by simply clicking the ‘Add Videos and Photos’ button located on the Ribbon. When uploaded, clips appear in a storyboard or timeline window where users can drag-and-drop to arrange video sequences.
