You can convert .xls to .jpg (.xlsx to .jpg) with the Snipping Tool! This is yet another incredibly simple way to obtain an image of your Excel sheet that few people are aware of despite it already being in your computer! Snipping Tool is a screen capture tool that is included with all modern versions of Windows, from Windows 7 to Windows 10.

In contrast to the Print Screen feature, Snipping Tool gives you the following options for what to capture:

• Free-form snipping enables you to draw any shape on the screen and include only that portion of your Excel sheet in an image.
• Rectangular snip – the default capture option for rectangular snips.
• Window snipping enables the capture of a dialog box or a resized Excel window.
• Full-screen snip – like Print Screen, captures the entire screen.

To convert Excel to JPG (or another image format), follow these three simple steps:

1. Select the type of snip you want to capture. To do so, click the little arrow next to the Mode button (or the arrow next to New in older versions), and then choose one of the options listed above.
2. Choose the section of your sheet that you want to capture. The selected area will be copied to the Snipping Tool window immediately.
3. Click the Save button, enter a file name, select an image format (.jpg,.png, or.gif are supported), and then click OK. It’s as simple as that!

There’s an easy way to get around this limitation though by using the tried and true copy/paste technique. This method will allow you to copy any part of an Excel sheet, and then paste the copied contents wherever you want.

To save your Excel worksheet as an a.jpg image, follow these steps:

1. Choose any Excel data you want to save as an image

Tip: To select a large table, select the first cell and then press Ctrl + Shift + Enter to expand the selection of the most recently used cell.

2. To copy the selection to the clipboard, press Ctrl + C.
Alternatively, in the Clipboard group on the Home tab, click the little arrow next to Copy, and then click Copy as Picture.

This gives you the option of saving the copied data as shown on the screen or as shown when printed:

3. Launch Microsoft Paint or your preferred graphics editor.

4. To paste the copied data, press Ctrl + V.

5. Save the new file as a JPEG, GIF, or PNG image. Done!

An Excel table saved as an image is visually indistinguishable from the original. This method is a perfect choice if you want to save large tables or retain the best image quality possible.

Tip: Did you know you can remove gridlines? If you don’t want gridlines in the image, go to the View tab and uncheck the Show gridlines check box before copying the data.

Use the built-in camera tool

This is a well-kept but incredibly cool feature in Excel! With this built-in tool you can capture a screenshot within the Excel app. Using the Camera tool is another quick way to capture a snapshot of your Excel data.

Here’s what’s really neat about this built-in tool:

The camera tool creates a dynamic image that syncs with the original dataset and gets updated whenever the original data changes.

Because the Camera tool does not appear by default, you must manually add it to the ribbon or Quick Access Toolbar. To finish it, follow these steps:

1. Select More Commands from the small drop-down menu in the upper-left corner of your Excel. This brings up the Options dialog box.
2. On the right pane, under the Choose commands from option, select Commands Not in the Ribbon.
3. Scroll down the list until you find the Camera command, then select it and add it to the right-hand section by clicking the Add button.
4. Select OK.

The Camera button is now available on the Quick Access Toolbar!

Simply do the following to save an Excel table as an image using Camera:

1. Choose a subset of cells to capture. To photograph a chart, select the cells that surround it.
2. Select the Camera option.
3. Click anywhere in the worksheet to insert a snapshot.
4. You can now resize the image by dragging the sizing handles. Alternatively, you can use the Picture Tools tab that appears when you select an image to apply different Picture Styles.

Tip: By default, Microsoft Excel adds a border to the image; if you don’t want it, on the Format tab, in the Picture styles group, select Picture border > No outline.

When you’re satisfied with the image design, you can export the Excel camera output to wherever you want. Simply select the image and press Ctrl + C to copy it (or right-click and then click Copy). Then, open another program, such as Paint, Word, or PowerPoint, and press Ctrl + V to paste the copied image. Alternatively, you can combine elements from several worksheets onto a single page and save it as an image using any of the methods described above. Just keep in mind that only linked images are “live” on the sheet.
