AdGuard Web Filter Review

Filtering ads usually only requires basic and cosmetic rules. For websites requiring changes in HTML-code directly, however, additional filters may be needed for effective filtering. In such instances, special filtering rules must be created.

Filters are rules written in a specific language that are interpreted by your ad blocker to block out ads from websites.

Ad blocker

Adguard stands out from other ad blockers by being an independent program with its own filtering engine to remove ads, threats, and other elements before they reach your browser – saving traffic and speeding page loading time, while blocking content which cannot be blocked with browser extensions due to limitations on their functions.

Adguard offers many customizable and effective options to make it more flexible and useful, such as selecting content to block (e.g. social media posts or video ads). Furthermore, you can change settings for browsing security module, assistant and network as well as configure logging.

HTTPS Filtering is another useful feature. With more and more websites employing the HTTPS protocol, protecting your privacy and data are of vital importance. To activate it, go back to the main screen and tap “Turn on.” A certificate will then be downloaded onto your device – an installation procedure which should not cause any issue or be harmful in any way.

AdGuard AdBlocker comes equipped with an optional feature to filter ads based on user rules. These rules can be tailored specifically to meet your needs but require some coding knowledge; to create them manually or import predefined rules from text files. Once added, these filters will supplement those provided by AdGuard.

Pop-up blocker

AdGuard Web Filter’s pop-up blocker feature helps prevent annoying pop-up windows from popping up while browsing pages online, as well as blocking adware and phishing attempts. Available across various platforms and offering fine-tuning via Whitelist/Blacklist options, AdGuard Web Filter’s high-quality filtering is unsurpassed by similar programs – especially iOS devices where many apps suffer due to Apple policies limiting functionality.

Blocking ads also protects your privacy by removing tracking pixels and data collected by advertisers to monitor your online activities and deliver targeted advertisements – something which can be particularly bothersome to those seeking anonymity online.

Pop-up blockers can save both time and money by blocking unwanted advertisements. Unfortunately, though, these extensions don’t block all types of pop-ups; some may be caused by viruses which ad-blockers simply cannot eliminate.

AdGuard’s ad blocking functionality relies on so-called filters, or sets of rules written in an obscure language, for effective ad blocking without slowing down websites. AdGuard also offers many additional features unavailable through browser extensions – such as network level ad blocking that is more efficient than using inline styles or HTML filtering to block ads.

HTTPS blocker

AdGuard Web Filter’s HTTPS Blocker feature makes it possible to block websites that utilize secure protocols (HTTPS). In today’s world, most data including ads is transferred over HTTPS so it is crucial that this traffic be blocked effectively. In order to do this, AdGuard must have installed an authentication certificate onto your device either at onboarding time or later through its settings page.

This program’s filtering language is inspired by Adblock Plus and begins each rule with an exclamation mark; any initial lines used as comments by Adblock Plus are ignored while later lines contain actual rules.

This version of the program introduces several new features and improvements. One such change is support for the!include directive, which allows you to include files into another one – useful when creating complex filters with lots of data. Furthermore, new options have also been provided to manage adblock circumvention scripts.

The new user interface (UI) makes managing the program simple, with access to its functions from its main menu. Adblocking can also be activated automatically on startup to protect from annoying ads-related plugins; furthermore, the appearance can be customized through color scheme selection as well as font size control and other display settings.

Filtering log

Filtering Log: AdGuard for Mac The filtering log of AdGuard displays all actions taken against websites and apps by AdGuard, whether in real-time or over a specified date range, filtered by domain name or type of request, providing an overall snapshot of its activity. Although not as comprehensive, this log still gives a useful view into what AdGuard is up to.

Filtering Log is an invaluable feature that allows advanced users to directly observe all web requests that the program filters, making it a valuable asset when setting custom rules. Furthermore, the Filtering Log feature can also help track whether or not a rule blocks ads on certain websites; you can view test results both with and without program installed, as well as number of blocked ads.

User Rules now offers a new full-screen editor to make creating, editing, and removing filters easier than ever – saving both time and helping find settings suitable for your device. Plus there’s now a popup action in AdGuard Browser Extension that resets all user rules for one website at once!

Some basic rules include modifiers that restrict their scope or change how it operates; such as the “noop” modifier which has no impact and is used solely to enhance readability of rules. Other conditions must also be fulfilled for them to function, for instance when blocking ads on websites they must match the type of content and not include images or scripts.
